Thank you for your support of our recent mission trip to the Emilia D’Cuire Special Education School in La Ceiba, Honduras. Sometimes people ask why we send missioners to Honduras. God calls us to go forth into the world and serve one another; as the team leader, I was blessed to see team members sharing their individual gifts with our brothers and sisters in La Ceiba in a way that simply must be done in person!
Eve Barborek and Louise McGaughey shared their experience in special education with the teachers at Emelia D’Cuire who yearn for the skills and materials to better instruct their students. Father Alex prayed with the family of Paola, a young student who was seriously injured when her uncle (her caregiver) was killed while we were in La Ceiba. Mike Vaughan taught first aid to the teachers, who were thrilled to learn how to deal with medical emergencies that arise as they care for their special students. Linda Tasillo shared her love for scripture with our mission team by leading our morning and evening devotional times. JP Power, a Rotarian, attended a Rotary meeting and witnessed the La Ceiba chapter giving a special bike to a young boy with polio; now he knows firsthand why Rotarians contributed $1.00 at every meeting to eradicate polio throughout the world! Bobby Zachariah is initiating a microloan project with local business and church leaders, something Bishop Lloyd Allen is asking each province in Honduras to develop. Father Walter Allen preached a wonderful Lenten sermon at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Tom Tasillo used his ingenuity and building know-how to help the team complete a variety of construction tasks. Nolvia Griffith’s familiarity with the local community allowed us to serve and experience the local culture in a meaningful way.
Once again, thank you for allowing us to serve on your behalf to help fulfill the mission of our church, “To know Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and to make Him known.”
