BeFrienders
BeFrienders are trained, loving and supportive church members, who can provide a caring, confidential presence in times of crisis or change for anyone. To receive this wonderful ministry, please speak with either Fr Brooks (970) 376-1647 or Karen Baird (970) 926-5002, for more information or to ask for a BeFriender.
You Might Want a Befriender When:
- You’ve washed and returned the last casserole dish.
- The divorce papers have been served and the bottom falls out of your life.
- The last child honks the horn, waves and drives away and the house suddenly seems incredibly empty.
- You’ve arrived home after the funeral service and the emotions you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you.
- The doctors have said, “There is nothing more we can do”.
- The door has slammed shut for the last time.
- The phone call that you’d always hoped you’ve never get.
- You realize the hands on the gold watch you received at your retirement party move more slowly that you have ever imagined.
- The nursing home director shakes your hand and says “Welcome to your new home”.
- The gavel goes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away.
- The baby has arrived, putting more demands on you that you ever dreamed possible.
- You find the pink slip inserted with what is now your final paycheck.
- Your family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk it out.
- You are angry with God, but uncomfortable with that emotion.
- You have moved into a new community and do not feel at home and the phone has not rang.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in July 2009 when a seasonal member from Houston, Texas brought this ministry to our church. We meet every Monday, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at the Vail Chapel to knit or crochet. This is an interfaith ministry and includes seasonal and full time residents. Many participants have previous experience knitting or crocheting, but beginners are welcome to join us. As of March 1, 2010, we have knitted 64 shawls and distributed 60 to those who need the comfort of a prayer shawl. If you have any questions about this ministry please call Judy Fonda, 970-748-8449, or if you know of someone who needs a prayer shawl, please call the church office to make this happen.

Meal Ministry
Our meal ministry provides fellow parishioners a home cooked meal, delivered to their home. Usually we organize meals for new mothers just coming home with their newborn, or parishioners recovering from surgery or illness. For questions or to request a meal please contact Bonnie Marlette, Director of Parish Life. If you’d like to be on our e-mail list to be notified when this ministry is called to action please send an e-mail to bonnie@episcopalvail.com.

Worship ministries
Our community worship experience is referred to as the liturgy of the church. The word “liturgy” is a secular term derived from the Greek word leitourgia, meaning “work of the people.” The word implies a work for the mutual benefit of all people, those doing the work and those whom the work also serves. For example, a land owner who builds a bridge across a river separating his property from another for his use, as well as for his neighbor’s, has performed a liturgy. The work benefits all those connected to it and facilitates ongoing relationship.
It is no wonder that the church has adopted the term liturgy to describe its worship experience. It is the work done by some for the mutual benefit of all, facilitating relationship with the community and God.
